My Heart, My Spirit, My Soul©

by Suzanne M. Welch 1991

Deep in the recesses of my mind,
There's a little dark corner, none can find.
There's something special I keep there,
To find it would be very rare.
It is so fragile, it could easily break,
Ergo the lock, for that I can't take.

It is my heart, my spirit, my soul,
And to find it, has been many a goal.
Some want to save it, some to repent,
Many trying, till their energy's spent.
Outside I've laughed, though inside I've cried,
Wondering when I'll no longer hide.

Take and never replace, always leaves an empty space.
Ergo, the lock, to protect what is left,
Therefore, unlocking, would require much deft.
They pick and they take,
Till there's none left to give,
Why! Oh! Why! Can't they live and let live!

I often long, long to be free,
Free as the bird, free as the sea.
A word, a tune, a smile, a touch,
They all affect me very much!
Where is that Knight? The one with the key.
The one who will let, me just be ME!
